Fiddle & Keys, Do As You Please!

Hello My Friends. How are you on this fine Saturday?
I’m gonna skip chatting about the weather because while I’m not sure what it has been like where you are, I can tell you that here at The Living Pen, it has been stormy, foggy and pretty much dadgum dreary!!  To add to my weather annoyance, I have been clearing out a much neglected reading nook and golly gee, I cannot figure out how such a small space collected so much stuff!  “Stuff”, is that a topic we should chat about?  Let me know if you would be interested in sharing your “stuff adventures”.

If you are new here, Welcome to The Living Pen.  For those of you who have been joining me every week, Thank You.  As always your comments are welcome and if you wish an email notification when a new blog post goes live, please register below.

I contacted Peter this week and this is how the conversation went.  Hope you all enjoy it.

Blu:
Hello Peter, is this a good time for a chat or are you all elbows and ears into a song?

Peter:
I’m good. We had a couple of good weather days so I was out and about and ran into a few more 4-legged friends. They heard about the blog and are anxious to get their 15 minutes of fame via a posted pic.  ;>)

Blu:
Really?!  Well then, let’s give them that fame!  (lol)

Blu:
Awwwww!!  I love your fan club and next time you see them, please tell them that I am so glad they wanted to be part of TLP.  But Peter, I’m just a bit curious,  do they have their own wifi or do they just use windowfi?!!  (lol)

Peter: I think they use Equinet ;>)

Blu:
I have received many emails about our last chat, seems like everyone is enjoying the deconstruction of one of your songs and I wanted to thank you for doing it for us.  Before we get back to that I had a question or two on something else if you don’t mind?

Peter:
OK.

Blu:
Today’s consumer seems to be more visual than ever, thanks to the web, YouTube and such.  Lately, being alone at The Living Pen longer than normal, I have found myself on the computer instead of in front of the television and enjoying the extensive topics covered in YouTube.  What effect has this had on what you do as a composer/musician?

Peter:
YouTube is the #1 platform for music discovery. So, there is great potential for artist exposure on that platform. I’ve made several music videos including the audio book we did together, Pacific Dreams. By the way Blu, Pacific Dreams was on the 1st round ballot at the 2021 Grammys® - many industry folks heard your beautiful story/poems! I have a YouTube channel if anyone is interested in viewing the music videos:

Blu:
The 2021 Grammys, wasn't that exciting?!  Joan Jacobs has such a beautiful voice, I remember hearing her read the poems for the first time and I was completely blown away.  She really gave them a true living feel.
Wow, that is quite a collection of videos.
Peter there is so much more to creating music; I'm beginning to understand why it takes so long for that next album to appear.  The Indie Artist of today has to wear many hats.  So what part of the deconstruction are you going to share with us today?

Peter:
I have the piano track. I'll add it in with the percussion to form the rhythm section for the violin solo.

Blu:
So the song is in pieces, like a puzzle and you work on each piece and then put it all together.  How long can an individual piece take you?

Peter:
A song can take anywhere from a week to a month, depending on many factor's. In fact there have been songs for this album where I've spent a considerable amount of time working on only to be discarded in the end. Sometimes the pieces of the puzzle sound great individually but just don't make the cut when combined on the final mix.

Blu:
Thanks Peter,.  Can you please give me a call next week, I know you are getting super busy with this album and I don't want to interrupt?

Peter:
I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Well, there you have it.  Our conversation!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did when it was taking place.  Please tell me what you think or or if you would like to do a random blog with me on "Stuff"!   Who knows, it could be fun!
